Mother Nature be damned. We are the real forces of nature! Last Friday, I called our sign artisan and installer, Clyde, to confirm that we would meet at our space for the sign installation. He told me that he was a few days behind schedule due to a recent snow storm. “It will be next Monday or Tuesday,” he said.
“Be patient,” I told myself, we’re not open yet, a few more days won’t be so terrible.”
Monday comes along and the weather in the Northeast was ridiculously windy. No snow, but wind. Geez. I guess our sign isn’t going up today. It felt like we were living on the set of The Wizard of Oz. Trees were falling down all across the state and many folks lost power for long periods of time.
On Monday afternoon, Clyde reaches out to let me know that he can install the sign on Tuesday at noon. Perfect! My daughter has a break in her class schedule and she’s going to document the entire installation. I wake up in the morning feeling like a kid on Christmas morning. I was a little giddy anticipating this momentous occasion. This is real. This is not just a sign, it’s a SIGN! It’s an omen of good things to come.
At 10:48am, Clyde texts me: “Running late. Have no power at my shop since yesterday might be closer to 3:30pm.”
First snow. Then wind. Now power!
But I rally. It’s just a little delay. At least it’s happening TODAY!
Due to the time delay, Michele wasn’t able to be there. My daughter had swim practice. What I thought would be a SIGN PARTY, ended up being me, Clyde and his son John. Despite the frigid weather, it was sunny and not nearly as windy as the day before. I took photos and videos of them installing the sign and it was every bit as exciting as I had imagined.
Take that mother nature! We will persevere!
